2012 PKD Walk in Los Angeles

This years walk was GREAT!
We had a lot of fun being together and supporting Polycycstic Kidney Disease research.

The Mahon, Loves, and Smith Families were all there to support us!
Say hello to team "The Mahon Brood 2012"!

This year the walk was in Santa Monica right on the beach.  There was a park there and it was a perfect location!
(we were there early to set up so there was BEFORE most of the people got there... it was packed!)

Jimmy was still in the security mindset... :)  He was guarding those free bananas! :)  By the way, thank you to the individual who donated the fruit from Trader Joe's!!!

There were two big tables set up (on like this on the other side of the stage) from UCLA giving out information about dialysis and kidney treatments!

They did a penny kids dash before the walk... we tried to get Connor to run but he got shy... :)

Jimmy being goofy... :)  The team who had the most team spirit got a certificate... it replaced this one in the frame.  Jimmy wanted to feel special so held up a blank discarded one.

Connor had fun playing with Charity! :)  He loves to make her giggle.

The walk took us down to the pier then we walked back.  It was a really nice walk!

Here's our little mob of walkers!  They said they were expecting 300 walkers and there were a LOT more than that... don't know total numbers but there were a lot of people!

Connor and Vale love their Uncle Trevor and Aunt Kati!

YEAH!   We did it!!!

We ended up raising almost $74,000 total!!!  YEAH!!

Can't wait till next year!

Vale's Dr. Apt

We took Vale to the doctor on Thursday and he was:
 16 lbs 6 oz
 25.5 inches long
17 head circumference

He is average for everything and growing just fine.

We also found out that it looks like he has esotropia in his right eye which is a form of strabismus (meaning he's a bit cross-eyed in his one eye).  So that might mean baby glasses or at worst, surgery when he's older.  There is a chance it could correct itself so we're hoping for that. :)

From that appointment, the doctor sent us to get Vale's kidneys an ultrasound and they found one large cyst on his left kidney, so Vale definitely has PKD.  We were hoping that because Connor has it, and the chances are 50/50 that Vale would not have it but that's not the case.  I suppose you can flip a quarter twice and get heads both times, huh.

Vale has one very large cyst on the top of his left kidney.  It's measuring around 11mm and his kidney is only around 4 cm so it's cover about 1/4th of his kidney.

We need to get a blood test and urine sample so we can see his creatine levels and BUN number to check his kidney function.

We will be going to the specialist with Connor on May 3rd so hopefully they can see Vale at that time as well.

We love our little guy!  He's so full of personality and mischief.  We know that Lord will take care of Him just like he does Connor.

Your prayers are appreciated as we go through the process of figuring out what the right decisions for Vale will be.
